Friends we’re back from VanCaf and we are struggling to catch up with all the work we’ve got to do. Erika made a great patreon post about all of it, drop by and give it a read (I even made a neat book-cover designing .gif for the post)! Next week, it’s back to regular OJST comics, we swear!

Planned Parenthood Donation

Today I donated $1,150 to Planned Parenthood from the funds Lucy Knisley and I raised by selling the original artwork and limited edition prints of our Party With Planned Parenthood illustration.

We’re not done yet, though!

We haven’t sold out of all the prints yet, so we can still raise more funds for Planned Parenthood.

If we sell another seven prints, we’ll have raised $1,500!

And if we sell out, that number will be raised to $1,650

I Don’t Want To Be Strong by Rado

One of the liberating aspects of sex is that it can be used to safely explore a side of a person that they can’t share in public. It could be a mousy librarian who becomes a confident dominatrix in bed, or the big, mean CEO who wants to be submissive and humiliated, or a big-hearted, nurturing, empathic person who wants to inflict some (consensual, wanted) pain, or– as in this week’s comic– the powerful superhero who wants to be the weak one, the protected one. Erika and I are experiencing some serious burnout at the moment and are tossing around the idea of taking a real week off soon. You’d think that making a webcomic would allow you the flexibility to take as much time as you want off – but the reality of things are so different. I think the last time we officially took a week was back in December? We had a booked-in break just prior to quarantine times and rather than take the time off anyway, we just didn’t stop working 0_0 Next week, a comic on attraction and then maybe we’ll take a break!

Peyronie’s Disease by Bingo

If you haven’t been on Patreon and aren’t up-to-date with our lives at the moment. Erika and I have been in stress-work-burn-out-crisis this past few weeks. Landing Erika in some intensive mental health hospital treatment. We… we’re just pushed a bit too hard this year with doing two books at once, and brains are breaking. Things are looking to get easier in December, and then we’ll be taking a longer holiday. This week though, Lucy Bellwood is stepping up to get us both some much-needed downtime and breathing room – so look forward to her comic next week.

Our First Sex Doll

A HUGE thanks to the team at Silicon Wives for thinking of us and sending us one of their ladies. It was exciting getting to try one of these out!

I think a large part of the appeal of Alabama (and high-end sex dolls in general) is all about the website and presentation of the dolls. So before I go chitty-chatting I really encourage you to check out the Silicon Wives website.*** They take incredible photos and tell backstories about the ladies they sell. Seeing these almost lifelike and expertly done photos breathes life into them, beyond the frozen figure you get in the mail.

*** Edit:
Ah WAIT – Before you go clicking the link to Silicon Wives, heads up: I just learned that some of the copy on their site is… not very respectful towards women. So click if you’re interested, but be ready to see text and copy that is marketed toward a different crowd than we cater to here.

Some tips I DID pick up on: A sex doll is COLD, you need to buy a heated blanket to put over them before getting intimate. Also, if you get a model with an in-built orifice (Like Alabama!), use Internal Condoms to save on having to wash them out afterward. There’s also a SUPER helpful How To Use A Sex Doll guide on the website that’s very much a must-read if you’re about to shell out for a $2k toy.

Also, a big thing I didn’t talk about in the comic is that it’s nearly impossible to recycle a TPE sex doll. There ARE some places that’ll take TPE, but it’s difficult and hard to find, and the idea of chopping her up for the recycle plant is just gruesome. Because of that and the high prices, there is a thriving second-hand market out there. Which brings me to my next announcement…

EDIT – shes been re-homed! <3 If you’re in the Portland area and are interested in our once-used* Alabama, drop me an email. I would love for her to find a good local forever home.
*Used with an internal condom, she never came into contact with any bodily fluids.

How do you choose to represent a subject that is both personal and universal, while best toeing the line between good taste and great titillation? Ranging from the informative to the surreal, comic artists intimately push on the frontiers of how sex is centered in a variety of approaches. Hourly Comics Day, 2017

Here’s how my embroidery turned out!

Every year Hourly Comics Day takes place on the 1st of February! It’s a fun way to share a small slice of life. As some of you know, autobio is where my heart lies. On the actual day, I only had time to jot down quick stick figures in my sketchbook and then I went back later and re-drew everything all nicely just for this update. Matt and I pulled out all the bells and whistles on this one, it took us almost 2 weeks to draw and color! I hope you all liked this honest look at my February 1st.

I also wanna take this moment to recommend the graphic novel Marbles by Ellen Forney. I read it before I was diagnosed as Bipolar II myself, but wow, did it reach out and grab me by the heart with how much I could relate to it. Maybe a year or so after it came out, I received my own diagnosis and it was like “Ooohhhhh…. No wonder.” I dunno, guys. I’m still learning a lot about my disorder, still learning how to best manage it and take care of myself. It’s hard work and I’m so, so, so grateful for the support network I have who looks out for me and loves all of me, including the crazy bits.

Paragard IUD

My love for my Paragard IUD knows no bounds, I think it is the best thing ever (for me) and I’ve had mine in since 2006– ALTHOUGH I also know a good number of people who had very negative reactions to having an IUD (hormonal or non), so it’s definitely not the Be All, End All birth control for everyone. Unfortunately, when it comes to birth control, you won’t know if it works for you until you try it. Sigh!

You may note that I mention Planned Parenthood somewhat regularly on this ol’ comic/blog/website and that is because they provided me with kind, humane, affordable healthcare when I was young and broke. Since 2006, I’ve been donating and volunteering and fundraising to pay them back and express my gratitude.

Speaking of which, this year’s Planned Parenthood art print fundraiser with Lucy Knisley is drawing to a close! We’ve currently raised and donated $1,400 and still have ~~five prints left~~ SOLD OUT. Remember, each print sold = $50 donated to Planned Parenthood.

My IUD Adventure by Alina

Alina shares her first pelvic exam and IUD insertion adventure! I’m on the record as being a big IUD fan but, hoo-lee, that is a one-two punch in the cunt, for sure. As an IUD user of close to two decades, I’ve had insertions and removals that cross the pain spectrum from ‘Uncomfortable’ to ‘So excruciating that the doctor and medical staff all apologized to me afterwards’, and despite that, it’s still the birth control I’ll be sticking with for the foreseeable future. You can learn more about my thoughts on and experiences with the IUD in this comic here, and the Mirena IUD makes a special guest appearance in Rachel Duke’s comic for us about Planned Parenthood, too!

2017’s been a bit tough on us so far – and Erika’s sick again after her amazing Sweden convention! Hopefully, we’ll be fit and healthy and back to reviewing toys in the next few weeks.

This year has been full of me recommending toys for you to spend your money on, but since you’re prolly gunna be getting plenty of gifts from your loved ones how about directing some of your cash to help a worthy cause, liiiiiiike….

Planned Parenthood
They provide vital healthcare to everyone, most especially those without access to other health providers. Sex education, contraception, reproductive health services– they’re doing good work and deserve all the support they can get.

Through December, all donations will be doubled by anonymous donors, so send what you can and it’ll be worth twice as much!

And if you’d like to get something a bit more tangible than the sense of satisfaction for helping people have educated and healthy sex lives, Lucy Knisley and I still have two more copies left of our Party With Planned Parenthood fundraiser limited edition print. $50 from each sale is donated to Planned Parenthood, and so far we’ve raised and sent them $1,400!
