It’s Pride month so today I want to share My Little Trans Joys!
I was surprised I hadn’t done a Pride month themed comic for OJST before this. Every June my city hosts a Trans March and it’s my main Pride month event I go to. This was a perfect opportunity to talk about all the little trans joys I have, there were so many that I wanted to make them into their own comic!
I hope y’all have a great Pride month and think about your own little trans joys~

“My Little Trans Joys” a comic by Jey Pawlik is done in cool textured colours with light blues, light pinks, and light grey and white to match the trans flag. Jey is a nonbinary person with a chubby build with short cropped hair with some greys, they sport big thick square glasses and casual comfy clothes.
Four panels at the top of the page are in light blue with blue lines, showing Jey’s little moustache, top surgery scars, Jey’s voice lowering through a speechbubble, and Jey’s whole self.
Narration in the four panels: My little trans joys
We see a Discord-like chat screen where some friends are celebrating with emojis and gifs
Cool guy: Happy pride 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🎉
Da Crow: Happy birthday queer people!!!
Funky Bunny adds a gif with a bunch of pride flags that reads: Sparkle on! It’s Pride month don’t forget to be yourself
Jey: It’s June already? AH!!!!! Happy Pride y’all!
Jey sits back at their desk and says “Every time Pride month comes around…
We zoom out to see Jey meditating in just shorts, we can see their hairy body and top surgery scars as they bring their hands up to their chest. The trans flag, nonbinary flag and a rainbow float around them.
Narration: I think of where I am in my journey to be myself, I came out as nonbinary when I was 25 in 2015, and I am so proud of how far I’ve come.

Four panels at the top of the page are in light pink with pink lines, showing Jey shirtless and floating in a body of water, Jey’s little stringy beard, Jey with other trans friends, a waiter saying “what can I get you, folks?” with ‘folks’ being emphasised.
Narration in the four panels: I keep them all
In a pink tone to match the little joy panels, Jey and Max are in their bedroom getting ready. Max says “So we’ll take the subway and get to the Trans March just before 7pm—“ Max stops to look at Jey’s tummy before they put a shirt on, Max smiles happily.
Jey cocks an eyebrow and asks “Heh, what is it?” as they finish putting their t-shirt on.
Max grabs Jey’s hands in xer’s and says “I just think your body looks really good. You’re so handsome and I love your tummy!” while sparkles float around them.
Close-up of Jey blushing deeply as their mouth curls up in a wiggly smile.

The scene changes to a grey and white to match the white of the trans flag, as Jey and Max meet up with a group. Two friends chatting saying “Jey’s also a comic artist and they work as a teacher in the fall—Oh speak of the devil!” as the two see Max and Jey arriving excitedly.
As the group meets up, a friend starts introductions and says “This is my friend, who’s gonna march with us tonight!” and gestures to the other person in the group.
She continues by saying “Nice to meet you! I use she/her pronouns.”
Max says “Hi, I’m Max, I prefer xe/xem.”
Jey chimes in with “And I’m Jey, I use they/them!”
The new friend asks “Right, you spell that with an “E”? That’s so cool!”
Jey replies “Gosh, thanks!”
Four panels in the middle of the page are in light grey and white with grey lines, showing a name tag with “Jey” on it, Jey wearing a satchel across their chest and their shirt with the word “FLAT” on it, Jey’s hand as they hold their pen with dark hair on their arm and knuckles,
Narration in the four panels: close to my heart
After the four grey panels the page shifts to full colour, showing Jey, Max and their two friends as they march in a crowd holding up their large trans flag behind them. The crowd behind them holding signs saying “Protect trans kids” and “Trans rights are human rights!” and “Moms 4 trans kids”

Jey looks over at a crowd of folks cheering on the sidewalk and not in the march, these people are also holding signs and smiling. The signs read “Proud to call you family” and “trans rights” and “I see you I stand with you”
Jey begins tearing up and wipes a tear from their face. Max leans over and asks “Hey, are you alright?”
Jey replies “Yeah, just—feeling a little emotional!”
The group continues marching in the large crowd. They chat together saying “Oh, we did it! This looks like the end of the march.” And “Wow, look at that huge flag over there!” they point to a large trans flag standing at the end of the march. Someone in the group asks “Y’all wanna take a picture in front of it?” and they all chime in “Let’s do it!”
The four friends take a selfie together in front of the giant trans flag, all smiling and happy for the camera.
Four panels at the bottom of the page are in light pink with pink lines, showing Jey’s chubby hairy tummy, a government form with the header “gender” and the options for M, F, and X, a little kid looks up at Jey with stars in their eyes maybe seeing their own future and what you can do with it, Jey waves back at the kid.
Narration in the four panels: and I feel proud

The four friends standing in front of the big trans flag as the colours explode out from it. Jey says “Wait!” as a little blue panel pops into existence in font of them.
Jey runs to the bottom of the page saying “I’ll be right back!” holding the blue panel close.
They place it at the bottom of the page with three other light blue panels and say “I gotta add this to—”
Four panels at the bottom of the page are in light blue with blue lines, showing a dropdown menu with the options for: Mr. Ms. Mx. And Dr. with Mx. being highlighted, Jey’s nibling correcting someone who’s said “She—” but the nibling says louder “THEY!” and Jey crying in the background, an older woman hugging Jey and both are tearing up, with the very last little trans joy being the selfie the group of friends just took. Jey slots the panel into place happily with the colours of the trans flag swirling around them.
Narration in the four panels: my little trans joys.
