Hold on to your butts as Cat Farris takes us on a deep dive into her colonoscopy prep! This pain-in-the-ass procedure could very well save your life, no shit.

Cat’s the best, and we really enjoyed this hourly-comic of her process for this mildly intrusive and important procedure! She made a trimmed down version of this comic all the way back in March; and I leapt at the chance to have her clean them up for OJST. Hitting those middle-aged years? Consider talking to your doctor about adding this to your own health plan!

Adventures In Colonoscopy by Cat Farris, published August 4, 2026 on ohjoysextoy.com

Cat Farris draws in a simple, energetic, cartoon-y style with a color palette of yellows and greens.

Cat: I turned 45 this year, and that means it's colonoscopy time! To convince you to get one too, I'm sharing my experience hourly comics-style. It's...

Image: Cat gestures at floating jars of prescriptions, toilet paper, a 16 oz canister of liquid, and a bowl of blobby substance.

Title: Baby's First Colonoscopy

Narration: The first step is the most well-known: The prep! Honestly the worst part of the whole thing in my opinion.

Image: A tiny Cat lounges in a 16 oz container.

Narration:
-A few days before, you'll start a low fiber diet. Fibrous foods can stick to the inside of your colon.
-The day before, you'll be limited t clear liquids only.
-The evening before, you'll begin taking your "prep." This is a laxative, usually mixed with a powder or liquid.

You'll also be asked to drink extra fluids to help flush you out!

Cat: Your doctor will pick a prep that's right for you, so be sure to follow their instructions precisely!

Title: Day 1: Begin Prep
Caption: 9 AM

Cat looks blearily at her coffee machine with a steaming mug in her hand.

Cat: Thank god black coffee counts as a clear liquid.

Cat lifts a big, clear container with a yellow substance in it into the air.

Narration: Excited to try Pineapple Jell-o!

Narration: It's...

Cat gives a disappointed thumbs up as she eats a bowl of the jell-o.

Narration: ...Fine!

Caption: 9:30 AM

Can and her husband Ron are walking their greyhound dog, Coco.

Cat: I want to do my PT run today, but I can't eat anything.

Ron: You'll just make yourself hungrier.

Caption: 10 AM

Garlic, ginger, and cilantro are shown going into a pot with liquid, which then goes into a thermos.

Narration: Simmered extras into my chicken broth. Then thoroughly strained it into my insulated bottle!

Narration: Mixed my first prep bottle with lemon lime gatorade.

A prescription bottle and Gatorade bottle both dump their contents into a 16 oz glass.

Narration: Put it in the fridge for 4 PM and set my alarm.

Her phone shows that an alarm is set.

Caption: 12 PM, Lunch

Ron and Cat sit at a table together with their lunches. Ron happily chows down on his noodle soup while Cat looks pained as she eats her lemon Jell-o.

The propped up phone on the table plays a recording from them, stating: More than an oridnary life, Bob Fosse feared an unremarkable death.

Caption: 2 PM

Cat radiates frustration.

Cat: I'm so hungry I eep almost reaching for real food!

Caption: 2 PM - 3:59 PM
Cat works at her desk with headphones over her ears. She draws with one hand on her Cintiq screen and the other hand on her lap top's keyboard.

Cat thinks: Drawing is the only thing keeping me from accidentally eating solids.

Her stomach gurgles and grumbles.

Caption: 4 PM

Cat's phone alarm plays "Brass monkey! That funky monkey!"

Narration: First Prep bottle, LFG!

Cat jumps up, pumping her fist with determination.

Narration: A great move, except now I'm laughing too hard to drink!

Ron dances in the background while she leans over the kitchen counter, laughing, as her drink goes un-drunk and the phone continues playing "Brass monkey"

Narration: Prep drink GO!

Cat takes a large, unpleasant sip through a straw.

With Xes over her eyes, she wails: Oh gods, it's salty as fxxk but also tastes like chemicals...

Page 3
Caption: Chug A Lug!

Cat takes a big long slurp through her straw.

Narration: The rush of nasty, cold fluid hits my stomach and...

Cat, looking dazed, groans, "Uhhh..."

Cat's face simplifies into an ill-looking cartoon.

Narration: Barf?

A huge burp erupts from Cat's mouth with a "BRAAAAAP!"

Cat: Whew. But uhhh...

She looks wearily at the glass, which is only half done.

Narration: New strat of holding my breath, chugging prep, then chugging gatorade. The straw had to go tho...

Cat looks determined with a glass of prep in one hand and a bottle of gatorade in the other.

Narration: It gets me to the finish line!

Narration: Sadly, chugging so much cold liquid tanked my body temp. But now I still need to drink 32 oz more clear liquid within the hour. I bundle up and drink while I draw and shiver.

Cat works at her desk again, but this time bundled up in layers.

Title: One hour later...

Caption: 6 PM - 10 PM

Coco the dog looks with confusion at the bathroom door, which has a sign reading, "Occupied for ????" on it.

Cat's voice through the door: BA-HAHAHAAAA!! It's like pee but it's coming from my butt!

Narration: I laughed at every poo. It was like food poisoning but without the pain.

Narration: The next day. I'm so hungry and tired.

Cat wakes up in bed next to Ron, who is still asleep. Her phone alarm is going off on the nightstand next to her. Coco sleeps on the floor.

Narration: Prep bottle #2 in 35 min.

Caption: 7:35 AM

Narration: I read yesterday that it's better to sip the prep not chug. Even if it's grosser. I only have 2 hours to finish it, plus 32 PZ of extra before I have to stop putting anything in my stomach.

Cat sits on her couch looking in dread at the two glasses in her hands.

Narration: My new strategy:
-Big breath and hold it
-Sip
-Swallow
-Bug glug of strong ginger beer
-Swish it and swallow
-Exhale and repeat

Cat slams down her empty 16 oz glass, exclaiming, "Fuck YES!"

Narration: It takes 35 minutes, but I finish with no nausea!

Caption: 8 AM

Narration: I promised the internet more comics, but it's all I can do to finish my extra fluids while looking at my phone.

Cat sits on her toilet looking exhausted and sick with a gatorade bottle in one hand and scrolling her phone in the other.

Caption: 9:25 AM

Narration: I realize I only have 10 more minutes left to drink liquids, so I slam a fizzy water for luck.

She diligently drinks from a can.

Caption: 11 AM - 12:15 PM

Narration: Once I can't even have liquids I end up taking a couch nape to forget the hunger.

Laid out on the couch with a blanket over her, Cat's stomach gurgles, "CHURRRR...."

Narration: Finally head to the appointment!

Dressed up in her coat, Cat pumps her fist in the air with more feigned confidence. Ron locks up their door.

Narration: The actual procedure is an examination of your large intestine: Your colon, rectum, and anus! Your doctor will use an endoscope, a long flexible tube with a lighted camera on the end, to look inside these areas. You usually get anesthesia for this, so you'll be blissfully unaware for all of it.

A doctor is shown controlling an endoscope that snakes inside of a diagram of a colon.

Wearing a cowboy hat, a tiny Cat rides an endoscope camera tube inside of a colon that has a couple weird little bumps labeled "polyp".

Cat: They're looking for Polyps. Tiny growths inside your colon that may or may not be cancerous. Your doc will remove them right away f they find any!

Caption: 1:45 PM

Narration: Check-in and wait.

Cat and Ron sit in a waiting room, bored. A framed picture of a big butt is hung on the wall.

Narration: Get Ready:
-Bag clothing!
-Put on gown!
-Get IV placed!
-Get taken to the procedure room!

Cat gives the thumbs up as she is wheeled into the procedure room on a gurney.

Narration: PROCEDURE.JPG 404 FILE NOT FOUND

Caption: 3 PM

In the recovery room, a stands next to Cat's gurney.

Doctor: Everything looked great, no polyps! See you again in 10 years.

Cat: Nice!

Caption: 3:45 PM

Narration: CARBONARA SPAGHETTI TIME!

Cat ravenously devours a bowl of pasta.

Narration: My verdict: Colorectal cancer is now the #1 cause of cancer death* in young people. *jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2844189

Cat: Personally, I'd take two days of discomfort over dying of something that is easily preventable. Hopefully after reading this, you'll see that a colonoscopy is less scary than you thought! Get your butt checked and stay alive!
