If you can get yourself to Portland you need to check out the next performance from Queens of the Pole. Follow them on Facebook to be notified when they announce their next dates!

Links to the performers I mentioned above: Ozzy Poles (Founder of the event and has also just opened her own pole dance studio, The Pole Palace), Rachael Reckless, Lady Stockholm, Chalese Stevens and Sandria Doré.

Oo! As of May 14th they got a video up of Ozzy’s performance as Snow White! Neat!

Erika jumps for joy next to an illustration of pole dancers in a variety of poses.

She says, “I finally got to see the…”

Queens of the Pole

“This is a regularly occurring showcase, put on by Ozzy Poles, where Portland’s finest pole acrobats perform at the Star Theater. I’d never been able to go before but when I saw this month’s would be DISNEY THEMED I knew I couldn’t miss it.”

Erika looks hyped as she stares at a poster titled “QUEENS OF THE POLE - Disney Edition”. Two performers pose next to a dance pole. One is dressed as Snow White, while the other sits at the base dressed like Ariel from The Little Mermaid, complete with a long skirt that looks like a mermaid tail. Erika exclaims, “My two favorite things, Disney movies and pole dancing, united at last!

“Due to unintentionally arriving fashionably late, having to wait in an immensely long line and then being 5′3″ (5 foot, 3 inches) in the back of a standing-room-only venue, I pretty much missed all the acts before intermission.”

A disappointed Erika mutters, “Rats,” as she tries to peer over a large crowd of people blocking her view of the performer all the way down in front.

“During intermission I found a little peeky-hole, squatting at the bannister of the balcony, and could finally enjoy the show.”

Erika is on the floor, bunching herself up into a ball in front of the crowd behind her. She happily watches the performance with her head poking out from between the bars of the bannister.

“The event was MCed (emcee’d) by the charismatic alternative model superstar, Rachael Reckless.

Rachael Reckless, a woman with dual coloured hair and a plethora of tattoos, is seen on a stage entertaining the large audience in front of her. She wears a glamorous dress and large, black platform heels.

“She was a natural with the crowd, flirty, funny and profane.”
“Though only a handful of the ladies danced to actual Disney songs, they all stayed true to performing a Disney heroine with music that fit their character’s story or personality.

Lady Stockholm danced as both a delightful Peter Pan to ‘You Can Fly’...”

Lady Stockholm, a woman with long, flowing hair, performs in her Peter Pan outfit - a bikini top with straps criss-crossing down, and a short cloth tied around the side of her waist. She is posed as if she is flying through the air, one arm outstretched with her legs out behind her.

“And as Ariel in sparkly green panties to ‘Under the Sea’ (I will confess I was kind of hoping to see some of the costume tail from the promo piece)”

Lady Stockholm is then drawn in her Ariel performance. She hugs the pole with her body, wearing the sparkly panties that Erika mentioned.

“I was completely entranced by Chalese Stevens’ passionate performance as Sleeping Beauty’s Aurora with her elegant hair and skirt flipping. It was turbulent and beautiful.”

Chalese, a woman with long hair and a beautiful, flowy dress, kicks her feet up behind her as she twirls around on her pole.

“Malificent cast her spell on Sleeping Beauty in Ozzy and Lady Stockholm’s team performance (also set to modern music)”

Ozzy and Lady Stockholm pose on the same pole, both wearing similar outfits of a bralette and form fitting bottoms. Lady Stockholm has her hair tied back in a ponytail and holds onto the pole with her arms above her head, her body forming a graceful curve as she arches her back with her legs held straight behind her. Ozzy is posed similarly, holding the position upside-down below Stockholm. Her black hair is done up to look like two long horns, similar to Maleficent’s iconic headpiece.

“My personal favorite was Sandria Doré performing as Tiana, from The Princess and the Frog. Her first act was appropriate for the movie’s Jazz Age time period with her Charleston floorwork number set to a jazzy ‘When the Saints Come Marching Home’ as she delivered an expertly timed strip tease, complete with spinning tassels.”

Sandria, a smiling woman with curly black hair, dances the Charleston while wearing a sparkly 1920’s flapper dress, complete with opera length gloves and ankle strap heels.

“I was beyond delighted when the pole portion of her routine had her performing to Tiana’s song, ‘Almost There’, straight out of the movie.”

Sandria twirls around on a pole and kicks her heel up, wearing what is labeled as “vintage looking unders”.

She is also drawn stripping out of her flapper dress, revealing a pair of nipple tassels over her breasts that spin around as she shakes them.

“The entire set was bubbly, exuberant and fun.”

“All in all, I came away from the evening completely starstruck - “

A literally starry-eyed Erika holds her head in her hands as she watches performers striking stunning poses on their poles. She exclaims, “How is it even humanly possible for people to move like that???”

“Everyone was amazing and you should make a point of checking out the next Queens of the Pole performance!”
