TCAF Panels

DATE: May 14th

LOCATION: The Pilot, 2nd Floor (The Pilot is located half a block from Toronto Reference Library, at 22 Cumberland Street.)

12:15 – 1:15 – Depictions of Sex in Comics
How do you choose to represent a subject that is both personal and universal, while best toeing the line between good taste and great titillation? Ranging from the informative to the surreal, comic artists intimately push on the frontiers of how sex is centered in a variety of approaches. With panelists Zan Christensen (Northwest Press), Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals), Erika Moen (Oh Joy, Sex Toy), Shintaro Kago (Tract), Cory Silverberg (Sex is a Funny Word), and Spike Trotman (Smut Peddler); moderated by Rebecca Sullivan, University of Calgary.

2:45 – 3:45 — Niche Comics
Sure we all love comics, but what’s the other thing that makes you light up like an incandescent bulb? Specialization isn’t just key to evolution—it can help bring new focus to your work and encourage readers to learn from (and share!) your enthusiasm. Join Kate Beaton (history), Erika Moen (sex and sexuality), Lisa Hanawalt (horses), and Lucy Bellwood (boats) for a discussion of how niche interests can lead to diverse, vibrant careers.

Aaaaand on the next weekend….
